"As a strong advocate for good government, a graduate of the COP (citizens on patrol) of Laguna Beach, and someone who proudly served our country in the military at the beginning of the Viet Nam War, there is a group of people who are supporters of Diane Harkey who seem to continually accuse me of being a criminal. I have never spent time in jail, nor have I ever committed any acts that would identify me as a criminal. Once I announced that I am a proponent of the recall, it was time for Harkey to find a way to defame me as well as other proponents of this recall. This is complete slander by the Diane Harkey team of supporters many of whom have been in trouble with the law themselves including the mayor’s own husband Dan Harkey for fraud. This is a case of failure in ethics by the mayor who must be recalled and not have an opportunity to run for higher office. We cannot allow a person like Diane Harkey think that she is above the law.”

Capistrano Beach resident Pam Tappan has a history as a strongly outspoken critic and foe of Harkey.  The depth of her passion against Harkey, as recently as last year, can be seen in the video clip (at right), recorded during Public Comments at the Dana Point Council Meeting of 3/22/06.  Thus, in just over a year, Mrs. Tappan has transformed into an equally strident supporter and proponent of Harkey!  What is behind her change of heart? Is she planning a run of her own for the City Council?  Does she think that Harkey can support her own move to get onto the City Council next year, if and when Harkey wins a seat in the State Assembly?
